Angela Atwood – WIHM 2019
Our Conversation with Angela Atwood
Angela is a rookie to the Gallery WIHM event. She is a director, Writer, and Actor.
Which of your achievements to date are you most proud of?
“Lady Hunters” so far, by far. Writing, then directing an incredible group of individuals through a unique and challenging experience, creating a film that makes audiences hold their breath, laugh, groan, and gasp together. And raising two kids to adulthood.
What’s your favorite horror film and why?
The Shining. It was my first. My dad scared the crap out of me during the labyrinth snow scene.
Who is your hero in the horror world and why?
Sarah Connor from Terminator, especially in Terminator 2: Judgement Day, when she gets all shredded and badass, and trains her son to do what must be done in order to save the world.
Share a practical tip for a woman who wants to do what you do.
Your resume is as good as what you’ve been hired to do. Don’t like it? Hire yourself.
Inspire someone who is not where they want to be in the industry yet.
I don’t mean that (answer above) lightly. YOU are the only person who knows the best you have to offer. Embrace expanding outside your comfort zone. If you’re an actor, write a story for yourself to act in. If you’re a writer, produce a short you’ve written. If you’re a director, raise a few dollars and hire some good people to make your vision with you. I’ve spent hundreds of hours on youtube tutorials – whatever you want to know is out there and findable, and doable.
Scare the crap out of us with something you have done or plan on doing!
I figured out how to kill a guy with toilet paper rollers.
What projects do you have coming up?
The “Lady Hunters” feature is currently in development – so writing, creating a business plan for investors, bringing in people for that. Also co-starring in a comedic web series hitting the fest circuit this year called “5A5B,” as well as a Lanford Wilson dramatic stage play in development in NYC.
