What motivates you to do what you do?
I love creating art, telling stories, and connecting with people through films.
Who is your favorite woman who does what you do?
I currently have a big professional crush on Phoebe Waller-Bridge because both her writing and acting styles are unabashedly authentic and real and raw in a way that most people are afraid to be. The ability to write (and perform) deeply flawed characters in a way that truly connects with an audience is a true talent.
If you had one wish for women in your space in 2020, what would it be?
I hope that we all continue to create the art we want to see in the world, regardless of whether or not anyone wants to give us “permission” to do so.
Share a practical tip for a woman who wants to do what you do.
If you’re frustrated by the lack of depth/inclusivity/character development in the roles you’re auditioning for (and trust me, I can relate) — WRITE THE STORIES AND CHARACTERS YOU WANT TO SEE! Or if you can’t, connect with someone who can and create something that is meaningful to you. Don’t wait for anyone else to hand you an opportunity — create it yourself. You’ll save a lot of time!
Inspire someone who is not where they want to be in the industry yet.
There’s no true measurable ‘success marker’ in this industry — every experience we have is just part of the journey, so try to enjoy where you’re at without becoming complacent and be proactive in your own success story.
What scares you?
The current instability of the world right now….and deep water.
What projects do you have coming up?
I’m working on more short film ideas with my husband and I also just recorded some VO for the pilot episode of a new animated series for two of the biggest studios in the world.
