Courtney and Sasha are rookies to the Gallery WIHM event. They are Paranormal comedy podcasters.
What motivates you to do what you do?
For most of our lives, we’ve had an interest in the paranormal: ghosts, cryptids, weird murders, etc. But we are both also deeply afraid of these things, so inevitably in talking about it we’d also make jokes. We figured there must be other Halloweenies like us out there who’d want in on the fun!
Who is your favorite woman who does what you do?
Dr. Alysa Lucas (friend and inspirational podcaster) and Augie Peterson (friend, horror author/podcaster)
If you had one wish for women in your space in 2020, what would it be?
That they will stop asking if they’re good enough to do this. The men don’t, so don’t second guess yourself! If you’re having fun and passionate about your topic, just keep at it.
Share a practical tip for a woman who wants to do what you do.
Get a Snowball mic (good and cheap) and download Audacity (free!). Get a schedule going early on: it’s the best way to find your audience and voice. And be prepared for it to take up some time!
Inspire someone who is not where they want to be in the industry yet.
Try not to get hung up on the numbers! It’s easy in podcasting to fall prey to “only this many downloads means success”. If you’re enjoying what you do, though, think about it more as connecting with other people who like the same stuff!
What scares you?
The patriarchy. Literally everything. Have you seen 2020? It’s a mess out there.
What projects do you have coming up?
