Deana Demko is a rookie to the Gallery WIHM event. She is an actress / sculptress / writer.
What motivates you to do what you do?
I love the genre. I am fascinated by the creativity that horror movies bring out in people…the stories, the scares, the artwork. I love playing someone else and being what real life doesn’t allow us to be.
Who is your favorite woman who does what you do?
Katherine Isabelle is one of my favorites.
If you had one wish for women in your space in 2020, what would it be?
Equality in the field.
Share a practical tip for a woman who wants to do what you do.
I would have to say to keep themselves based but follow their hearts and dreams. You have to pay your bills but you can still follow your dreams during every spare minute so that you can still live and do what you want to do.
Inspire someone who is not where they want to be in the industry yet.
Don’t give up. Follow the voices that tell you to follow this industry. I got my start at a con where I sat as a sculptress and then became a cream queen. I like to believe there is no failure if you try to be everything that you want to be.
What scares you?
Reality. Anything that I believe could really happen such as stalkers or serial killers. Stuff like Jason and Freddy although fun…doesn’t really frighten me. The real fear is when you believe it could actually happen to you.
What projects do you have coming up?
I am sculpting currently and working on a new dark twisted Alice in Wonderland type book.
