Our Conversation with Sasha Konstantine Munro
Sasha Konstantine Munro is a Transgender Horror Hostess, Actress, and Writer/Director and is a Veteran this year!
Which of your achievements to date are you most proud of?
Getting Pride & LGBTQIA movements in small town (tough I mostly hated and infamous for it – small towns, small minds you know. I’m proud for being a visible representative for my community online while talking about my true love of horror and sci-fi. Also proud to get my local support group going for the local LGBTQIA+ community and it’s allies, while helping with a mental health helpline and volunteeting for a local lifeline.
What’s your favorite horror film and why?
Rituals – this film was proto Deliverance and Saw well before those films were mainstream horror icons. Outdoor survival films are brilliant. My 2nd would be Humanoids from the Deep, aka Monster… Or as I call it Fishmen wanna F**k! LOL. It’s a great film with Doug McClure, rubber monster suits… Blamed for being sexist despite being directed by a woman. Great film.
Who is your hero in the horror world and why?
In fiction, Lt. Ellen Ripley. Ultimate badass woman herione. Did everything she could in the first film to get back to her daughter… And then everything she could to save her surrogate daughter in Aliens. As far as the other sequels and prequels go, we don’t talk about them. Except Alien 2 On Earth, just because it’s weird. In real life, I always wanted to be Caroline Munro or Cassandra Petersen/Elvira. I mean I do horror hosting… And just look at my last name.
Share a practical tip for a woman who wants to do what you do.
Never give up. Never be silent. Don’t wait for opportunity, make your own. Necessity is the mother of invention. If you see a need in the community, don’t cry and complain it doesn’t exist – make it happen. That simple.
Inspire someone who is not where they want to be in the industry yet.
Hell, I’m not even where I want to be in the industry yet… But it’s okay, as long as you’re loud, visible and proud of what you do (& you’re having fun while you do it)… Fame (or in my case, infamy) will come. Just enjoy what you do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life.
Scare the crap out of us with something you have done or plan on doing!
Just existing for me is scary. In my time I’ve survived cancer 2x, divorce, 3 kids, I’ve been stabbed, shot, ran over, drowned, assaulted, multiple vehicle accidents (plane, boat and more than a few cars), have been in an explosion, Earthquake, a couple Tornados… Scare you? I AM scary. Jason Voorhees ain’t got shit on me.
What projects do you have coming up?
Well as always working on more Sasha the Princess of Darkness content – more podcasts, review episodes and yes even a couple Princess of Darkness movies (One a siege horror film, the other a comedic take on space operas and finally an animated joint). Stay tuned for those!
