Our Conversation with Spooky Boo
Spooky is a rookie to the Women in Horror Month Celebration. Her podcast is called: Spooky Boo’s Scary Story Time
What’s your show about?
I tell stories from dark horror sites as well as my own personally written stories with chilling background music and ambiance.
What are some of your favorite episodes?
Besides the dark web stories from around the internet that I tell which are my favorites, two of my favorite episodes I have personally written are Two Tacos for a Buck and Sludge.
How well do you think horror is represented in the podcast world?
It certainly is more appreciated than it is on YouTube. I think it is a growing market that, with the current popularity in podcasting, can only get bigger.
What about women-led podcasts? In your experience, are they common or rare in horror?
I have not found that many women-led podcasts in the horror market.
What podcast/podcaster influenced you to begin podcasting and why?
It was more of a decision that YouTube shut me out of their market and so I looked toward podcasting as an alternative platform. I didn’t realize storytelling was that big until after I had started already.
Inspire someone who is just starting out in the podcast world.
Podcasting is a market where you can take your own style and turn it into something you’re excited about and proud of. Free speech is not frowned upon so you can really be yourself and watch your audience grow.
What’s your favorite experience as a woman horror podcaster so far?
I’ve met a lot of great people, both male and female, in the horror market and others.
What do you have coming up?
I try to keep to a Monday through Friday schedule. I have two scary stories about dolls and then my personally written horror story about a Little Ricky ventriloquist doll.
