Firefly (Fox)

(2002) (2005 follow up film Serenity)

Firefly was the first series Joss Whedon worked on after Buffy The Vampire Slayer ended. It had much of the same sharp wit, drama and comedy from that series mixed into its sci-fi western setting. It won critical acclaim and developed a loyal fan base. Most, myself included, believe Fox never cared about the show to begin with. The network delayed the premier episode with baseball and aired the series out of order with large gaps between airings. The last four episodes were never aired. Fox saw the mistake it made when DVD sales shot through the roof. That helped with the company deciding to make the feature film Serenity which picked up shortly after the show ended.
